H.E. Mrs. Fatimettou Mahfoudh Khattry, Minister, Food Security Commissioner, Mauritania

Productive meeting today in Nouakchott, Mauritania, with H.E. Mrs. Fatimettou Mahfoudh Khattry, Minister, Food Security Commissioner and Supervisor of the ARC Programme, as we kick-start our first official visit in the country. We thanked the government of Mauritania for its unwavering leadership to our organisation, listened to their concerns in regard to risk profiling and capacity building as we continue our efforts to be a demand-driven organisation and be more relevant to our member states, thanked them for their continued participation in the ARC risk insurance pool and their indefectible support to the ARC programme. We also renewed our commitment to supporting the country and its vulnerable population against natural perils such as droughts and floods.

"Mauritania is a true leader in the Disaster Risk Management and Financing (DRMF) area in Africa and a strong advocate of the ARC mechanism since inception in 2012, and we strongly support their efforts to streamline their DRMF interventions through the establishment of national disaster fund. Our visit aims to strengthen our strategic partnership with the country as we continue to serve Mauritania and its vulnerable communities against the impact of climate change.” Ibrahima Cheikh Diong (UN ASG and ARC Group DG)
