MOU signing between ARC an South Sudan

 

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – December 5, 2023: Following its recent accession to the African Risk Capacity (ARC) Treaty, the Government of South Sudan has taken another significant step in its climate resilience efforts. On the sidelines of Cop28 in Dubai, South Sudan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ARC, solidifying its commitment to improving its capacity to respond to climate threats and enhancing its strategies in Disaster Risk Management and Financing.

The signing ceremony, which symbolises a deeper collaboration between South Sudan and ARC, furthers South Sudan's integration into a continental framework dedicated to effectively combating climate-induced disasters. This move exemplifies the government's proactive approach to safeguarding its population and ensuring sustainable development amidst an escalating climate crisis.

Specifically, the signing of the MoU Signing will (i) allow for a deeper collaboration with ARC, leveraging the organisation’s expertise in Disaster Risk Management and Financing; (ii) enable South Sudan to strengthen its ability to plan, prepare for, and respond to climate-related risks, with a particular focus on vulnerable communities; and (iii) give South Sudan access to ARC's innovative tools and resources which are vital for effective climate response and resilience building.
